Riderwood Lions Club Delivers 95 Large Bags of Clothing and Toiletries to Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring, MD, to Help People in Need
SILVER SPRING, MD (November 7, 2011) – The Riderwood Lions Club this week delivered 95 large 55-gallon bags (and five large boxes) of donated clothing and toiletries to Shepherd’s Table to help people in need. The items will help more than 100 people weekly who visit Shepherd’s Table’s Clothes Closet and more than 100 people daily who receive assistance from the organization’s Resource Center.
The donations resulted from a two-week Care Packages for the Homeless drive held among residents and employees at Riderwood, a continuing care retirement community.
“We are here and serving because of your generosity and your deep caring for others,” said Jackie Coyle, the Executive Director of Shepherd’s Table, in a letter to Riderwood’s residents and staff. “Without you people would not receive the basic necessities of life.”
Members of the Riderwood Lions Club, a branch of the College Park Lions Club, are affiliated with The International Association of Lions Clubs, the largest service organization in the world. Lions Club members create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people by providing an array of voluntary community and international services.
Among its numerous charitable fundraising projects, the Riderwood Lions Club sponsors an annual community clothing drive for the Vietnam Veterans and for toiletries and special items for the homeless, and maintains collection containers for Used Eye Glasses and Used Hearing Aids Recycling and for Soda Can Tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
